Shuffle Aces: Party People In A Can – Tourist Shooting Tar Balls

Party People In A CanHere’s an interesting one! I found this song as a piece of background music on a YouTube surfing clip and immediately wanted to know a bit more. Piecing together the few bits of info I’ve been able to find, it turns out Party People in a Can is the surf rock band of Pedro Costa, a member of Portugal’s Stealing Orchestra. He uses the band as a vehicle for some pretty laid back tracks that do a great job of recreating that classic ’60s/70s surf sound but with a more modern twist.

Party People in a Can hail from Sesimbra in Portugal, a pretty decent sized town well known for its beaches and nightlife. They’ve recently released their first album, and while I haven’t got hold of it yet, if it’s anything like the track featured here it may be well worth tracking down. There’s that real old school endless summer feel, and it’s just really well put together.

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – although I’m afraid not this one as it’s not available on Spotify – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
