Shuffle Aces: RJD2 – Ghostwriter
The mainly instrumental hip hop/trip hop of RJD2 gets a fair bit of airtime at The Cavan Project headquarters – it’s the kind of music that has the unique ability to always be interesting but never be overpowering. Ghostwriter is one of his most well known tracks, but the track that most would be aware of is A Beautiful Mine which has been used as the opening theme for Mad Men.
RJD2 was born Ramble John “RJ” Krohn and lives in Philadelphia. He started out as a DJ but then moved on to produce tracks for a bunch of high-profile rappers. He now has his own label – RJ’s Electrical Connections – where he showcases more of his own stuff.
Today’s track is Ghostwriter. It was featured in a 2005 UK TV ad for Anadin Extra, as well as in the opening credits to the 2004 romantic comedy Wimbledon and 2005 romantic comedy Prime. In America it has featured in advertisements for Wells Fargo bank. In addition, it was also used in the 2011 short film A Brief History of Title Design. It comes off the album Deadringer that is well worth listening to. The opening riff is also a bunch of fun to play on guitar!

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
