Shuffle Aces: The Braids – Bohemian Rhapsody Cover

braids bohemian rhapsody coverI’ve been down this path before with Jake Shimabukuro’s classic version of a Bohemian Rhapsody cover but this morning I was reminded of this classic version from 1996. I was reading Slow Thrills excellent summary of tracks released in August this year and noticed a track from Braids, an art rock mob from Canada and was reminded of The Braids (a different act) doing this cover – still one of my favourite non-Queen versions of the song.

The Braids were a San Francisco Bay Area duo who recorded this R&B version of this song for the soundtrack to the Jon Lovitz movie High School High. It was produced by Third Eye Blind’s lead singer Stephan Jenkins and was also released as a single in 1996. It peaked at #42 on the Billboard Hot 100, and stayed on the charts for 17 weeks.

And make sure you listen to the Jake Shimabukuro version too – you won’t be disappointed.

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
