Original Song: The Ink’s Still Wet
Month 99 of the song-a-month project and the first one done in a social distancing/isolation environment. These are strange times and it’s been an interesting challenge settling into a new routine. Which of course is a setup for the excuse of yet again leaving my monthly song until the last day I could! It’s a sombre little number as befits the times – but what excited me most was playing a Les Paul for the guitar part (a first for this Fender fan) and really loving it!

Changing words while the ink’s still wet
Writing things you’d rather forget
Twists and turns with no direction
Fractured thoughts with no reflection
Do you spit out truth or swallow lies
Is this another failed disguise
An albatross around your neck
No facts left you want to check
(Chorus)
You aren’t the only one who’s afraid
Scared of all that could go wrong
You aren’t the only one who’s afraid
Just trying to see where you belong
Between the lines the truth is found
But have you left the space
Or have you tried to bury deep
What goes on behind that poker face
Another false identity
Just one more tool that’s in your kit
Platitudes that have no meaning
But that’s not something you’d admit
(Chorus)
You aren’t the only one who’s afraid
Scared of all that could go wrong
You aren’t the only one who’s afraid
Just trying to see where you belong
About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
