Original Song: All Wrong

Month 74 of the song-a-month project has landed, and All Wrong is something I really like. That said, it’s a fair way off the kind of sound I was hoping for, which is mostly a reflection of my ability as a guitarist. I’m hoping that the Magnificent Compañeros will have a crack at it in the near future! It’s also one of the very few times that I’ve started with the music first – the most common way to write songs. I’ve always been a lyrics first kind of guy, but this song was born out of some experiments with fuzz pedals. Enjoy!

ALL WRONG
©2018 Chuck Smeeton

Last night I couldn’t sleep at all,
Had a dream, all I did was fall
Tossed and turned, felt like a wreck
Must’ve pulled the wrong card from the deck

In to the shower, only had cold water
Got a shaving cut, blood on my collar
Made some tea but the milk was sour
It’s all too much at this early hour…

Spilt my coffee, missed the train
No umbrella, it began to rain
Screaming kids on the 8.05
Should have chosen today to drive

(Chorus)
Some days it all goes wrong
Gets inside your head
Some days it all goes wrong
I wanna go back to bed
Some days it just all goes wrong
Some days it just all goes wrong

Late for work, missed a call
Can’t get on the internet at all
Printers broken, computer’s dead
This is messing with my head

(Chorus)

Working late, won’t see the game
It’s not my fault but I’ve copped the blame
Home now need a cooling drink
…Except the fridge is on the blink

(Chorus)

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
