Original Song: You Wouldn’t Even Like Me

You Wouldn't Even Like MeFifty-two months in and I’m taking a bit of a mulligan. Yep, I’m getting You Wouldn’t Even Like Me up in the month (albeit a mere 5 hours before the month ends!) but it’s hardly finished. The vocal was purely a guide track that I recorded to see how it flowed, but the next day I got a nasty cold and haven’t had a voice able to get a tune out of (cue the jokes about whether I can ever manage to get a tune out of it!). My wonderful daughter offered to give it a crack but we’ve just never found the time to do it. On the instrumental front it’s a but incomplete too but enough of my whining! I do actually quite like the words – it’s strangely so much easier to write songs of “love lost” than anything else, even if it does make my wife a little worried. Maybe I’ll try and finish this off if I get a chance… or maybe I’ll do what I generally do and go on to the next month!!

I thought that look was one of caring
But I realise now you were just staring
Not even trying to see
What lies inside of me

I thought you might have been my friend
But you’ve left me nothing to defend
Devoid of all compassion
Devoured me in a fashion

A#                               Dm
You wouldn’t even like me if I was the only one
A#                               Dm
You wouldn’t even like me for just a bit of fun
A#                               Dm
You wouldn’t even like me if you’d never had a drink
A#                               C
You wouldn’t even like me if you ever stopped to think

There was something in all the waiting
But all that’s left is just the hating
The stark reality
Doesn’t look so pretty

You’ve hidden everything up your sleeve
Maintained your focus to deceive
Another little game
Someone else to blame

Dismantle the sorrow and the rage
It weren’t the same book let alone the same page
All those issues that you raised
All those lessons now erased

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
