Original Song: Out Of Time

Month 82 of original song-a-month project and another song that had to be squeezed out at the last moment! Again there’s been a flurry of Magnificent Companeros activity with a bunch of new songs being worked on but none of them ready to release here, so I came up with something new. I quite like this “story” song approach (and a few of the others floating around are of a similar vein). This one could use a bit more thought – but that will probably come with the band. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

OUT OF TIME
©2018 Chuck Smeeton

It wasn’t just a game, not a trivial pursuit
I knew who I was looking for but my prey was quite astute
The tracks had all been covered each step along the way
And now I was at my wits end, no clues left on display

(Chorus)
I’m all out of time
I can’t find the right place
I’m all out of time
Time to give up on the chase

It was the beginning of the end with an act of desperation
When they slipped through the net, chasing their salvation
Just disappeared from view one morning in July
So began the hunt to get the witness to testify

(Chorus)
I’m all out of time
I can’t find the right place
I’m all out of time
Time to give up on the chase

(Bridge)
The trials and tribulations
Of warrants and citations
Accusations and frustrations
Allegations and temptations

(Chorus)
I’m all out of time
I can’t find the right place
I’m all out of time
Time to give up on the chase

I followed every lead but every one was a dead end
I thought that they would break, but they seemed to only bend
Every time I felt quite close I would end further away
Every place where they’d been seen they would have left there yesterday

(Chorus)
I’m all out of time
I can’t find the right place
I’m all out of time
Time to give up on the chase

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
