Original Song: Heat

Month 100 of the song-a-month project and a milestone achieved. Not exactly the song I’d like to go to the ton with, but a song nonetheless! It’s been an interesting month where my fingers have taken a beating with some stitches and a couple of burns – result being no chance to play guitar. So this track is very simple, but in the end the simplicity does actually evoke the kind of feeling I was after.

HEAT
©2020 Chuck Smeeton

Relentless heat for three weeks straight
Cool change promised but still we wait
Emotions charged, filled with hate
Airless rooms, a constant state

Humidity holds you like a weight
No sign of when it will abate
Losing hope, this is our fate
And still the heat does radiate

(Chorus)
Cloudless skies and burning sand
Life within a sunburnt land
Temperatures you can’t withstand
Cloudless skies and burning sand

Wishing you could shed your skin
Redemption for an unknown sin
No motivation to begin
An oven that we live within

Air you can cut with a knife
No return to normal life
The masses are just running rife
End before we get to strife

(Chorus)
Cloudless skies and burning sand
Life within a sunburnt land
Temperatures you can’t withstand
Cloudless skies and burning sand

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
