Original Song: A Minute To Midnight
A MINUTE TO MIDNIGHT
©2020 Chuck Smeeton
The waiting drove me mad
But there was nothing I could do
No control over what came next
I just wish I knew
Can’t they tell what I’ve been through
Exhausted from the process
I said my piece, I made my case
Now on my own with all this stress
(Chorus)
It’s a minute to midnight
And I’m waiting for a sign
It’s a minute to midnight
Waiting for the deadline
It wasn’t easy, I must confess
Not a path I’d choose to take again
But progress isn’t easy
You need the pain to make the gain
It was certainly a strain
But you learn to live with it
Patience is a virtue
You can’t quit, you just submit
(Chorus)
It’s a minute to midnight
And I’m waiting for a sign
It’s a minute to midnight
Waiting for the deadline
(Bridge)
How do you measure time and keep your expectations in check
How do you cope with silence, how do you deal with fear
How do you take the next step when you’re not sure what to do
How do you pass the time while until you finally hear
(Chorus)
It’s a minute to midnight
And I’m waiting for a sign
It’s a minute to midnight
Waiting for the deadline
About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
