Shuffle Aces: Faces – Stay With Me

We’ve been talking about “swagger” in our Magnificent Compañeros rehearsals, and Aaron called out the Faces’ “Stay With Me” as a track to listen to. It’s an old classic, but listening to it again closely made me realise what a cracking track it is.

It’s a dodgy video but you can’t beat Ronnie Wood’s brilliant guitar, Ian McLagan’s rollicking keyboards, Kenny Jones feel on the drums and Ronnie Lane sitting right in the pocket. Top it off with Rod Stewart’s sense for just how the vocals should work in the mix – let alone his precarious swinging of the mic stand! – and you’ve got some great rock and roll!!

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
