Shuffle Aces: Beck – Blue Moon

Generally the tracks I put up in the Shuffles Aces area are either obscure or old classics, but this time it’s a brand new number – Blue Moon – from a well established artist’s latest album: Beck’s Morning Phase. The first review of the album I saw said it was closely related to Sea Change – one of my favourite Beck albums – so I found it on Spotify and streamed the entire album…twice! And I can’t wait to play it again.

It’s too new for there to be specific track video clips, so I’ve included a video that Beck has created around the cutting of the vinyl for the record with the track Blue Moon over the top. Yep, it’s a great track, but you really need to listen to the entire album to appreciate how the whole thing works together – rare in this age of singles. It’s got a real “California music” feel to it with a beautiful vocal approach and simple melodies. Truly a wonderful album.

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
