Original Song: Ride The Wave

Month 96 of the original song-a-month project – a full eight years under my belt. This one was penned on the Gold Coast in November and combines the lessons one can learn in sport and how they apply to life. I’ve kept it pretty simple because it’s really about the words after all!

It’s in your mind the limit on how far you can progress
The mental barrier to how you define success
Trust in your ability, trust in the work you’ve done
Focus only on yourself, you’re not like everyone

No one ever said it’s easy to find your true potential
And that part that is within your head is totally essential
On that doubt and fear you feel, you must pull down the curtain
It’s only then that you will win, there’s nothing that’s so certain

To hunt the leaders down, says more than you realise
Determination of that kind shows through in your eyes

Sport and life have parallels and you can learn from each
And both present some challenges that seem beyond your reach
But learn from them and stay aware of what fuels the motivation
And let it always be your inspiration and foundation

There’s is always more than one way to achieve a goal
But to find the different paths you need to look into your soul
You don’t have to decide right now on what you want to do
Just stay true to yourself and let it come to you

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
