Original Song: Long Gone

Month 86 of the song-a-month project, and one that made it out despite some trying times! Moving house is never easy, so with most of my gear packed up I’m using this version of Long Gone that was recorded by The Magnificent Companeros at a recent rehearsal. About the only thing of note around the song is that it all started with the line “why the sound of running water brings you to your knees”. It was a mash-up of an idea I just liked so it eventually got stretched, kneaded and pounded into the song you hear today!!

LONG GONE

Too many times I’ve wondered
Why you question everything you see
And why the sound of running water,
Brings you to your knees

You’ve always done it your way
And the choice was sometimes flawed
But you’ve had lots of advice
Most of it ignored

(Chorus)
Long gone
You won’t find her here
Long gone
Took the chance to disappear
Long gone
Nothing was too clear
Long gone
And I will shed a tear

What’s going on inside your head
I’d check if you’re okay
I never saw it coming
You just went away

And when the nights are lonely
And the solitude bears down
I lie awake and wonder
If there’s a smile or there’s a frown

(Chorus)
Long gone
You won’t find her here
Long gone
Took the chance to disappear
Long gone
Nothing was too clear
Long gone
And I will shed a tear

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
