Original Song: Flow

Month 89 of original song-a-month project and a very simple piece – just two chords in fact. Sadly it’s another month where I haven’t had a great deal of time to play around with the song so the recording here is my unfortunately all too usual one-take/quick edit approach. That said, it has been a good month for lyric writing so I’m feeling confident for next month’s output already.

THE FLOW

The bench down by the lake
Where I’ve sat so many times
Pondering my future
Playing with some rhymes
I’ve sat here in the dark
I’ve been here in the rain
I’ve sat here filled with hope
I’ve sat here wracked with pain

(Chorus)
I want to write a song
I want to write a song
Waiting for the inspiration
The world just passes on

A place of solitude
Where the words just seem to flow
Coffee is the lubricant
And time is very slow
I’ve sat here in the dark
I’ve been here in the rain
I’ve sat here filled with hope
I’ve sat here wracked with pain

(Chorus)
I want to write a song
I want to write a song
Waiting for the inspiration
The world just passes on

Word play in the morning chill
Trying to find the key
To unlock the meaning
Of what’s inside of me
I’ve sat here in the dark
I’ve been here in the rain
I’ve sat here filled with hope
I’ve sat here wracked with pain

(Chorus)
I want to write a song
I want to write a song
Waiting for the inspiration
The world just passes on

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
