The Hellbenders: Tainted Love (again)

I know I’ve put up this version of Soft Cell’s Tainted Love by The Hellbenders before, but we recently redid it with better audio, a couple of cameras, and a change of instruments – yep, my beloved double bass got it’s first run in a band setting with this clip.

Trying to create that professional band shot thing is not as easy it you might think!

If nothing else, this session gave me an insight into how tough it is to play the double bass for long periods of time. After an hour my fretting hand was shot to pieces so I know I’m going to have to go into training to make the instrument a more regular part of The Hellbenders’ sets.

The video was shot at Big Music – a pretty cool rehearsal facility in Crows Nest, Sydney, we often use, and edited by Ben “Tarantino” Willson. We had the board running into Garageband, but Ben also mixed in a bit of the sound that was picked up by the cameras. Turned out okay we reckon!

The Hellbenders are Chuck Smeeton, Aaron Cliff, Phil Barker and Ben Willson… four blokes who probably should know better… but don’t.
