Shuffle Aces: Twin Peaks – Good Lovin’

Twin PeaksAnother great track sourced from my favourite music podcast – Sound Opinions. Twin Peaks are a bunch of young Chicago kids, and Good Lovin’ is a track that sounds like it should have been recorded in 1963. The band is made up of vocalist and guitarist Cadien Lake James, guitarist Clay Frankel, bassist Jack Dolan, keyboardist Colin Croom and drummer Connor Brodner, and was formed in Chicago, Illinois, back in 2009 by James when all the members were in high school. Their first album, Sunken, was recorded in James’ basement on Garageband and released in 2013. Their second album, Wild Onion, followed in 2014.

You can hear lots of interesting influences in their music – The Strokes, Replacements, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Stooges – and their sound is described as a mix of “’60s garage rock and the 2010s garage punk sound”. That said, there’s a lot of diversity in their tracks, although Good Lovin’ really does sit right in the “garage” space. I probably prefer the clip here over the album version of the song as it really captures the raw/sloppy kind of thing that appeals to me. I’m intrigued by these guys and look forward to seeing what else emerges over time.

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
