Shuffle Aces: Disturbed – The Sound Of Silence

Okay, so this track has been around a while – and even featured on X Factor Australia in 2016 – but it somehow passed me by. That was until my good wife shared it with me. This version of The Sound Of Silence is, to me, what a good cover song is all about. Respect the original but give it your own feel. Lead singer for Disturbed, David Draiman, obviously has a fantastic voice but even he acknowledges it was a challenge to manage his vocal approach to the track.

I also think it’s fascinating that the song – which is certainly not reflective of the vast majority of their original material – has become something of a trademark amongst a broader audience. It’s weird the way music works sometimes.

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
