Here’s one that is certainly true to the Shuffle Ace tag – it popped up on my phone at the gym this morning from a bunch of random tracks I’d loaded. The General was released way back in 1998 by Dispatch and appeared on their album Bang Bang. I’ve always loved the story of the song – a great anti-war piece – and the way it is delivered. The Boston band performed from 1996-2002 when they took a break. Since then there have been several reunion tours and a couple of albums. Their full catalog is well worth a listen.
Here’s a pretty cool clip of the song being performed live a few years back… but I’d also recommend listening to the album version.
You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.
Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
