Shuffle Ace: The Lachy Doley Group – Use Me

Lachy DoleyI came across this when it was recommended by one of the guys on the Build Your Own Guitar forum – and I’m so glad I did. Lachy Doley is a brilliant blues, soul, rock, organ player. When you see him play his Hohner D6 Whammy Clavinet which has a whammy bar sticking out of it, you’ll understand why he’s been dubbed the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond Organ. This track – Bill Withers’ Use Me – is a brilliant example of his playing, but I suggest you check out all that you can of him!

Adelaide-born Doley has recorded and toured with acts like Powderfinger, Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai, Jimmy Barnes, and The Beautiful Girls. His own group, The Lachy Doley Group, has seen their latest album, Conviction, reaching #5 on the UK Blues Broadcasters Charts, #1 on the Australian iTunes Blues Charts and #1 on the Australian Blues & Roots Airplay Charts.

And it’s not just his playing that’s amazing, Doley has a great voice that works brilliantly in the genres he works in. Do yourself a favour…

You can find all the Shuffle Ace tracks – including this one – on a Spotify playlist here.

Shuffle Aces is a series of posts that highlights a song of the week that “shuffling” has brought forth. With all the streaming services it’s not just an iPod on shuffle mode that we use to discover new stuff, but the principle remains the same: hit play and wait to see what gems come forth.
