Original Song: Seemed Like A Good Idea

seemed like a good ideaMay seems to have been the month of collaboration. In pulling together the 53rd track in the song-a-month project, Seemed Like A Good Idea, I called on the guitar wizardry of Mr Aaron Cliff to replace my feeble attempts at overdriven anger! Loyal listeners will know that I’ve gone on and on about my lack of ability to write rock tracks. While I still find it hard, I’ve decided to at least try and keep at it for a while to see if I can work out a few of the tricks. The first step in the process came when another collaborator, Will, asked me to write some lyrics for a great piece of music he’d written. It got my head in the right place and I’ve had another crack. It’s certainly not perfect but Aaron and I are going to work on this one to whip it into as much shape as we can. Until then, hope you enjoy.

SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA

G
Climbing just a bit too high
A#
Thinking that you could still fly
G
That weird thing that you had to buy
C                                   A#              G
It seemed like a good idea (at the time)

Girls who were just too much fun
Staying too long in the sun
All those crazy things you’ve done
It seemed like a good idea (at the time)

(Chorus)
A#
Choices made with no regret
F
It seemed like a good idea (at the time)
A#
Mistakes that you’ll soon forget
F                             D#           A#
It seemed like a good idea (at the time)

Choosing three instead of seven
Putting all your faith in heaven
Turning amps up to 11
It seemed like a good idea (at the time)

(Chorus)

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
