Original Song: I Read It On A Poster

Read it on a posterMonth 64 of the original song a month project and there’s a pretty sparse offering. The idea behind this song started a few months back when I was at an airport and saw a poster with the line “Making a difference starts today” – as in “I read it on a poster”! It seemed like as good an idea for a song as any other I had at the time so I wrote the first version on the flight that day. I’m pretty sure this song will get a crack at being Companero’d so I look forward to the more complete version, but for now this is monthly submission!

I READ IT ON A POSTER

E                                                  A
You understand what it is and how you carry through
E7                                               Asus4
But have you ever taken stock of why it’s what you do

(Pre-chorus)
C                           Em
I’d love to have another go
C                           Em
To do it all again

(Chorus)
D                                         C
But making a difference starts today
Em
I read it on a poster
D                                         C
But making a difference starts today
Em
I read it on a poster

If you’ve tried to sell a diamond between the shadow and the soul
I’d question whether you have ever really known your role

Are you going to chase or are you going to wait
Trapped within your destiny leaving it all to fate

(Pre-chorus)
I’d love to have another go
To do it all again

(Chorus)
But making a difference starts today
I read it on a poster
But making a difference starts today
I read it on a poster

I sometimes hear you when you’re calling out my name
But there’s never a time when it sounds just the same

A verse is just a promise on which the chorus must deliver
Fragments of emotion embedded like a splinter

(Pre-chorus)
I’d love to have another go
To do it all again

(Chorus)
But making a difference starts today
I read it on a poster
But making a difference starts today
I read it on a poster

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
