Original Song: One Chance
black cock hookupAdmission time: I’m taking a bit of a mulligan on this track as I technically didn’t complete the recording of it in October. I wrote the lyrics and got the basic chord pattern set by the middle of the month but I had a really tough run finding time to actually record it. Still as the 42nd song in the project I reckon I’ve earnt a leave pass here. To simply get it out I’ve kept the recording very simple – just guitar, bass and vocals – but that probably suits it anyway.

C
You only got one chance left
And it might be one you used before
F
I’m sure I’ve picked up those pieces
G# G
That were left lying on the floor
The skeleton’s in the closet
But it’s breaking for the door
And it’s taking all that baggage
You just can’t take any more
(Chorus)
F
One chance to flee
C
One chance to go
F
One life to lead
G
One chance to grow
You can do whatever you please
And I’ll do whatever I can
I’m starting to like those demons
The very ones from which you ran
Time to leave the family home
There’s nothing left to kill
You’ve taken it all for granted
And it doesn’t take any skill
(Chorus)
Throw your meal ticket out the window
Take courage and let it rip
Let the winds of fortune blow
Time to steer your wayward ship
Time to get a grip on yourself
Time to live before you die
Don’t you wind up on the shelf
Regrets are just too cheap to buy.
(Chorus)
About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
