Original Song: The Granary
One thing that’s always messed with me in the recording process is mixing – I really struggle to get the balance right and I’m just not sure I have the ears for it. I must have had a dozen cracks at getting this one done, and I’m still not that happy with how it sounds.
It’s also a bit of a change from the quieter, slow tempo stuff that has dominated 2014’s songs. As I’ve said many times, I’d really love to be able to do more upbeat stuff but I find it difficult.
Nothing too flash with the recording process here – Taylor T5, Fender ’62 jazz bass, some strings and keyboards straight out of Garageband is about all there is to it.
About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
