Original Song: Games

Month 84 of original song-a-month project and a full seven years under my belt! This one is an interesting one in that one of my work colleagues asked me to write a song for their wedding! In the end getting the lyrics together wasn’t too hard as she gave me a heap of great material to work with. I did try a couple of versions with the music, especially as they like both country and grunge! They played it at the wedding and got a great reaction which is fantastic. Thanks so much for the opportunity Hilary!

A random meeting, just click and connect
At a time in their lives when they both had to reflect
On what they wanted, the chance to move on
And now it’s being captured in this song

(Chorus)
Love is just a game they play
They know the rules and what to say
But this is one they both will win
‘Cos they’ve found their very own geek twin

All the Stars are in alignment
Both Trek and Wars, they’re so compliant
Cats on the hearth, treats being baked
Scrabble battles and ladders snaked

You can teach love unless you know it
This is the day where they do commit
Take time to read, to dance with passion
Treat each other with compassion

(Chorus)
Love is just a game they play
They know the rules and what to say
But this is one they both will win
‘Cos they’ve found their very own geek twin

(Bridge)
He’s the Alliance to her Horde
He’s the armour, she’s the sword
He’s the intro, she’s the extro
He’s the balance to her tempo

(Chorus)
Love is just a game they play
They know the rules and what to say
But this is one they both will win
‘Cos they’ve found their very own geek twin

They will collect, they have passed go
And now together they will grow
The long and short of it is plain to see
They’ll have their fantasy and reality

(Chorus)
Love is just a game they play
They know the rules and what to say
But this is one they both will win
‘Cos they’ve found their very own geek twin

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
