Original Song: Dreams

Month 79 of original song-a-month project and a song that’s been through the Magnificent Companeros production process before arriving here! Dreams is one of those songs that started as a simple set of lyrics and a chord progression, but quickly became much, much more after Will had a crack at it! This month has been quite good with a bunch of songs sketched out in a rough form – certainly plenty of ammo for the coming months.

DREAMS

I brewed a pot of coffee and sat down in my chair
Tried to solve it all but all I did was stare
Another Sunday morning, another day begins
Forgot about the losses and focussed on the wins

Strengths got me to this place, but they won’t keep me here
Take some time to think about what is your greatest fear
I’m glad I didn’t know how hard that it would be
When I started on this path to finally break free

(Chorus)
Dreams might not deliver
But dreams will feed your soul
Dreams will keep you going
Dreams define your goal
Dreams will take you to a place
That you can’t control
Dreams are sometimes all you have
Dreams will shape your role

Whatever’s hardest do that first, a wise man told me so
And he’d forgotten more than I will ever know
It’s not as though I’m the only one who’s ever made a choice
To step away from the norm and find my own true voice

For every single challenge that I find along the way
There’s a path to take, a way to have my say
Am I going to chase or am I going to wait
Only I can take the steps to define my fate

(Chorus)
Dreams might not deliver
But dreams will feed your soul
Dreams will keep you going
Dreams define your goal
Dreams will take you to a place
That you can’t control
Dreams are sometimes all you have
Dreams will shape your role

About the original songs
In January 2012 I commenced a goal of trying to write and record at least one song from scratch each month – sometimes it comes easily, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but I love the discipline it creates. I managed to complete the year, but it was so much fun that I’ve decided to keep it rolling for as long as I can.
